Conversation pieces

The “Conversation pieces” project was born from the desire to explore the social sphere of the Katendrecht district in Rotterdam, famous as it was once part of the large harbor area of the city. The colored silicone objects, obtained through the use of plaster molds, display statistical data regarding Katendrecht. The topics addressed are: the increase in economic value of the houses, the number of road accidents and the crime rate in the neighborhood. Residents were asked to interact with the objects and the topics the objects represent to explore how much statistical data may or may not reflect personal life experiences in the neighborhood. The result of the research is reflected in the continuous flow of personal conversations which arose between the objects and the local people during the workshop.
