Body Dough Synergy

The project is a profound exploration of the communal and personal dimensions of bread making. The spatial installation features a collection of sourdough starter samples created by Silvia and her close friends, symbolizing the shared nature of this traditional activity. Accompanying these are a sound installation of stomach digestion sounds and a video of Silvia making bread with her friends, emphasizing the intimate connection to food preparation. At the back of the room, a large projection displays a long-duration film of dough rising on Silvia’s belly, a powerful visual metaphor for the nurturing aspects of bread making. This immersive installation aims to communicate the deep personal and communal bonds fostered through this age-old practice. Ultimately, Silvia‘s installation serves as a poignant reminder of the social and cultural significance of communal activities in fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness, countering the modern trends of individualization and atomization.
