Radio Umwelt: A study in electromagnetic behavior

Sander Blomsma

2021

An exploration of an alternative to the dominant tendency to produce spatialities through a human cognitive ability of seeing. Starting from the experiment of recording electromagnetic waves with custom made audio technology, sound waves get visualized across different spectra and software. Sound is understood as a phenomenon of interpretation (by the mechanic device of the human ear) for the objective actuation of sound is kinetic energy. The work builds upon this knowledge and its recordings, continuing with a variety of 2D spectrographic images and eventually 3D ocular systems to re-interpret and visualize such waves as kinetic and spatial actualizations, enabling new technical communicative tools which allow new forms of mediation to look at unperceivable space differently.
