BDSM – BUDDHISM

This project explores the tension between spirituality and the materiality of our homes, particularly within domestic spaces where leisure and self-care intersect, like home gyms. Here, spirituality connects with gravity, evoking the idea of a “sacred moment.” With a hint of satire, it questions: how might we commodify gravity, a fundamental force? This question extends to how we manage every inch of our national parks, turning natural sanctuaries into curated experiences. Design, rather than solving problems, often amplifies them, pushing spaces to their limits. Picture a plaster Buddha resting on a metal shrine in my home gym, a mass-produced yet venerated object, a symbol I pray and sweat for a “good day.” This space becomes an industrial altar of modern spirituality—filled with metallic scents, iron, and bound mats—an intersection of mystical reverence and the industrial weight of contemporary spiritual practice.
