Limbs of a Mountain Devil; Inhabiting the Archive

The project explores the concept of the archive as a space of confinement and control, housing fragmented relics of a fictional creature, the “Mountain Devil.” These dismembered pieces, stored and categorized within the archive, reflect the oppressive human framing and erasure of the creature’s history. The archive becomes both a physical and symbolic space where the legacy of this once mysterious being is stripped of context and reduced to isolated fragments. Through this framework, the project critiques how histories—particularly those of marginalized or oppressed entities—are often distorted and controlled by those in power. The fictional creature serves as a metaphor for how real histories are confined, manipulated, and reshaped within the limitations of institutional archives, leaving only incomplete, distorted narratives.
