The Han Character Space

‘The Han Character Space’ (字閒) is the research about the Han characters related to space and time. As every Han character is a concept, xian 閒—the origin of ‘space’—triggers our imagination of space, movement, moment. This spatial piece practices the aesthetics of subtlety and immerses the visitors in the crafted space with light and shadow.

This hand-crafted space investigates close relationships between maker, material and visitors while slowing down our pace, breath and mind. It is also the author’s starting point for investigating the philosophy of cultural understanding and imagination in a contemporary architecture practice.
