Invert, Recast – Traverse

A series of sculptural pieces created during the first lockdown period in the Netherlands which meant the MIARD exams took place online via conference call. Physicality, tactility and the bodily relation were important aspects of my ongoing sculptural research. For that reason, I decided to send the sculptural pieces out to each member of the examination committee by post instead of creating digital work or video documentation. The work consisted of 7 unique pieces sent out to separate adresses spanning the Netherlands and Belgium. This presentation format created a different experience for each person, as it was only possible to form an impression of each sculptural piece – and thereby the series in its totality – through description and the vague visuals provided by the video call.
