Into the Heap
Chiara Catalini, Shiila Infriccoli
2021
The project narrates a journey into a heap of sand, a matter that has been extracted, blowed, mixed and utilised into the creation of new landscapes. The collection of microscope photos openly builds a path that tells an intimate story about sand and its relationship with time, memory, transformation, erosion and domestication. The visual narration tries to open a dialogue about each grain of sand, through fascinating bodies and micro-encounters. Therefore, the heap of sand on the side of the street, usually seen as residual waste of human activity, is seen as a space permeated with meanings and discoveries.
