Towards Spacelessness

Ilonis Bairamidis

2019

An audiovisual installation that explores the abilities of visual projection feedback in a spatial environment. Feedback is a dynamic self-regulating phenomenon observed in numerous natural and biological processes including that of vision, as the eye’s ability to detect spatial contrast is partially a result of neural feedback activity between photoreceptors in the eye’s retina.

A recording camera faces a wall and a projector casts recorded signals back onto the same wall, the installation manipulates the act of a subjective gaze, by using the camera’s ability to replicate the act of making space into image. By feeding back the image onto itself, the installation transforms the wall into a hyper-surface, generating an abstractive and immersive visualisation that collapses image into a dynamic field of light.
