Unfolding Interior Patterns
Iulia Circei
2014
This project, installed at Huis Sonneveld, Rotterdam focuses on the notion of privacy, an important concern for the Sonneveld family. By colonizing the interior of the guest room, the closets are “dressed up” and hidden behind a layer of craft paper.
The two dimensional diagram, common to both disciplines of interior architecture and fashion design, is translated into a three dimensional shape through the technical process of pattern drafting. Central element in shaping a garment’s volume, the fold surpasses its formal role as a flat, two dimensional skin to become an envelope encasing a void.
