Hourglass Pavilion

Pawel Szubert

2015

My curatorial idea for the pavilion was inspired by the map of the world’s time zones. A pavilion that each week would host countries situated within each time zone. It would also temporally “exist” within particular zones, meaning that it would open during the daytime in the currently engaged countries.  During the whole 6 months event, one building would eventually “host” all the countries.

Nations teamed in unusual groups will form their new landscapes – transient surroundings enclosed in a building. The Pavilion will be an open space filled with just one material – sand. The liquid interior of the pavilion will make the participants react on it and take part in common work to change their environment.
