The first-year students will visit the Venice Architecture Biennale which is curated by Irish architects Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara. We will take stock of recent architectural production from around the world, paying particular attention to the role of the human figure at different architectural scales as outlined by the Biennale’s theme (Freespace).
As a complement to the Biennale, we will visit a major contemporary art exhibition on the relation between exile, isolation and architecture; and explore the nexus between Venetian gothic architecture and 20th-century multidisciplinary production in the unique setting of Palazzo Fortuny.
The trip is organized as part of the ‘Critical Strategies’ program curriculum led by Andrea Bagnato and Füsun Türetken.
