Transformation, Interior of the Body

A speculation on the emotional state of an individual struggling to seek for authentic physical contact. Each subtle movement of the body forms a fluid and organic space which influences the rigid and controlled structures of the surrounding. The process involves a time-based choreography, formed from direct stories of modern life struggles collected through the research.

The research started from the phenomena in Japan, ‘Hikikomori’, which is a term used for the ones that withdraw from society and families. They lock themselves inside the rooms ranging from 6months to decades in Japan. This phenomena started from the 1980s, where there was a change in society in lifestyle with the influence from the Capitalism, merging with the complex relationship between the social pressure and the shame culture.
