I did not grow up in a war

2015

I did not grow up in a war investigates memories through of a series of testimonials related to Lebanese people’s houses during the civil war (1975-1990). It arises from a need for a deeper understanding of what was occurring in the house, behind closed doors; it attempts to reconstruct personal lost fragmented memories into a collective narrative.

Each person shares a story about a room of the house that closely relates to the war, serving as a starting point for his/her plot. The project manifests itself through four chapters creating different interpretations of war.

I did not grow up in a war is a result of the MIARD alumna research grant, awarded as a recognition of distinction. It is based on the Master thesis project Interiors of Memories that explores personal memories related to the house in Beirut, Lebanon.
